Studio Project
WALL TILE
- Pictures of the finalized wall tile coming soon -Â
For this project we were required to work in teams of two and create a 1'x1' wall tile. We were required to explore the properties of a material of our choosing, so we decided to work with wood. We chose wood because we wanted to create an interactive wall and we knew would was durable enough to withstand many people handling it. We also chose to work with wood because it is cost efficient and a familiar material. We cut the wood into diamond shapes and sanded the edges at 45-degree angles to get a more diamond-like effect. We then stained the wood pieces, cut divots into the inner sides of the pieces and glued them around fishing line which was attached at either end to a wooden frame. We chose to use plywood because it gave a very unique look to the wood when the layers of the plywood were exposed due to the sanding. Our final wall tile was an interactive wall where you could spin the wooden diamonds to expose a different colour of wood on the other side. We image this full size wall existing in a cafe or another public place.
